Polymarket max bet: how much each game's order book can take
There's no fixed max bet on Polymarket. Its Help Center puts it this way: By design, the Polymarket orderbook does not have trading size limits.
What limits you is the book: how many shares other traders are selling near the price you want. Below, for the 40 busiest games starting in the next 24 hours, is how much is for sale near the best price and what $1,000, $10,000 and $50,000 would cost after Polymarket's taker fee.
Source: Polymarket Help Center, "Does Polymarket Have Trading Limits?" (help.
Its Terms still let Polymarket set limits for individual accounts, so "no limits" isn't the whole story. What its rules say
Polymarket is a prediction market, not a casino. These prices are the market's, not our picks.

What each game's book can take
Polymarket's order booksprices are the market's, not our picks
Each stake shows the price after the fee in the format you pick above: Decimal = odds after fee, ¢ = cost per share with the fee in, % = the chance you'd need to break even. avg = average price before the fee. "to 60¢" = the highest price the order reaches, shown when that's more than 2¢ above the best. "holds $X" = the whole ask side is smaller than the stake.

Polymarket's market data lists a 1-second delay before a market order matches on this game; the book can move in that time.

Compare with your bookmaker's odds
Add the odds for the other result to compare margins
This is arithmetic on two quotes, not advice. We don't check the odds you type, your bookmaker may not take this stake at that price, and Polymarket's book moves all the time. Settlement rules differ too: each Polymarket market's rules decide postponements and what counts (some soccer markets settle on 90 minutes plus stoppage time).
Order book as we read it 3 Nov, 04:01 UTC. It changes all the time, and a sports book is cleared when the game starts. Before any taker rebate. Prices are the market's, not our picks or predictions.
Limits
Does Polymarket limit big or winning traders?
What Polymarket's own pages say, in our words, with the date of each page:
- Help Center, "Does Polymarket Have Trading Limits?" (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364481-does-polymarket-have-trading-limits), updated 11 Jan 2026 - The order book has no trading size limits by design and matches buyers and sellers of any amount. There's no guarantee you can trade your size without moving the price, or at all if nobody is on the other side, so it suggests checking the book's depth before trading big.
- Docs, "Prices & Orderbook" (docs.
polymarket. com/ concepts/ prices-orderbook), read 27 Oct 2026 - The same: no trading size limits, and large orders can move the price.
- Help Center, "What is Polymarket" (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364060-what-is-polymarket), updated 2 May 2026 - You trade against other users, not a house, so there's no house to ban you for winning too much.
- Terms of Use (polymarket.
com/ tos), effective 11 Aug 2026 - Section 3.3: use can be subject to transaction limits or rate limits, which Polymarket can change with or without notice and adjust for individual users case by case. Section 3.2: it can change, suspend or switch off features for any reason, including allowing only open positions to be closed. Section 4.2 lists conduct it prohibits, such as spoofing and wash trading, and lets it investigate and end access. Section 4.3: it can ask for more information and end access if it doesn't get it or finds it inadequate.
- "Polymarket on Record" (polymarket.
com/ transparency), read 27 Oct 2026 - Polymarket says it asks top-volume traders for additional information, looks for accounts run together, and restricts wallets where it substantiates a problem.
What we didn't find: a published maximum stake or position size on polymarket.com, or a published rule that limits accounts for winning. We have no data on how often accounts get limited, so we can't promise it never happens. Sources read 27 Oct 2026. Polymarket US, a separate exchange for US users, publishes its own limits; this page is about polymarket.com.
How it fills
How a big order walks the book
An order buys the cheapest shares first, then the next price up, until your money runs out. Traders call that climb slippage. Say a side's book has 6,000 shares for sale at 55¢, 10,000 at 56¢ and 20,000 at 57¢, at a 0.05 fee rate (an example book, not a live one):
| Price | Shares | Cost | Fee |
|---|---|---|---|
| 55¢ | 6,000.00 | $3,300.00 | $74.25 |
| 56¢ | 10,000.00 | $5,600.00 | $123.20 |
| 57¢ | 1,929.82 | $1,100.00 | $23.65 |
| Total | 17,929.82 | $10,000.00 | $221.10 |
So $10,000 buys 17,929.82 shares at an average of 55.77¢. The fee is worked out at each price and added on top: $221.10. You pay $10,221.10 and get $17,929.82 back if it wins: decimal odds of 1.75 after the fee, against 1.82 at the 55¢ best price.
Polymarket's order docs describe two kinds of market order: fill-and-kill buys what it can and cancels the rest, fill-or-kill fills completely or not at all. Its tools cap the price at the level they expect the order to reach, so if the book moves first you get part of the order or none. Source: Polymarket's "Place orders" docs (docs.
The % on a market page is the midpoint between the best bid and the best ask, or the last trade when they're more than 10¢ apart, says its Help Center, "How Are Prices Calculated?" (help.
Limit orders
Limit orders: no fee, no promise of a fill
Only the taker, the side whose order fills straight away, pays a fee. Makers, whose orders wait on the book, are never charged, says Polymarket's fee docs (docs.
Our affiliate share comes out of the taker fees new users pay, so we earn nothing on limit orders. You should know about them anyway.
Fees
Fees at size, and taker rebates
Polymarket's taker fee is shares × rate × price × (1 − price), worked out in USDC when the order matches and rounded to five decimals, says its fee docs (docs.
Each market carries its own rate, so we read it from the market itself rather than the category table. On this board right now: 0.05 on 38 games, 0.03 on 2 ().
Polymarket's Taker Rebate Program pays back 3% of taker fees once your 30-day weighted volume passes $2,000, rising to 50% at the top tier, plus a one-time bonus the first time you reach each tier ($10 at Bronze up to $25,000 at Obsidian), says its taker rebate docs (docs.
Kick-off
Kick-off, delays and cancelled games
Polymarket clears a sports market's order book at the official start time and cancels every waiting order, and start times can move, says its Help Center, "Limit Orders" (help.
Market orders on sports markets wait a short delay before they match. Polymarket's Help Center describes a 3-second delay, with 1 second being tested on NBA and MLB; its market data listed 1 second on most games we read on 27 Oct 2026, and each game on the board shows the delay it lists. During the delay the order can't be cancelled, and it's checked again before it matches, so the book can move under it. Source: Polymarket's "Order lifecycle" docs (docs.
Postponed or cancelled games follow each market's own rules, so read them on the market page. In the rules we read on 27 Oct 2026: a cancelled NBA game with no make-up date and an MLB tie or cancellation resolve 50-50; a soccer match counts 90 minutes plus stoppage time, and if it's cancelled outright each team's market resolves No; a tennis walkover resolves 50-50. A 50-50 result pays 50¢ a share. That isn't a refund: shares bought at 70¢ get 50¢ back, shares bought at 30¢ get more than they cost. Markets resolve through UMA's oracle after a 2-hour challenge window, about 2 hours in all when nobody disputes. Source: Polymarket's "Resolution" docs (docs.
Affiliate disclosure
When a Polymarket link shows here, it's an affiliate link. If you're new to Polymarket and sign up through it, DropSiren gets a share of the trading fees you pay. You get nothing extra: there's no sign-up bonus or promo code, and your fees are the same either way.
Which games show is set by start time and Polymarket's 24-hour volume, never by what earns us more. Our share comes from taker fees that new users pay, so limit orders and markets with no taker fee earn us nothing; they're on the board all the same.
Prices are the market's, not our picks or predictions.
18+. Polymarket is a prediction market, not a casino. Prices move and you can lose what you put in.
How we work out these numbers
We read Polymarket's public order books on our server, at most about every five minutes, in one request for every side on the board, and stamp each read with our own clock. A book's own timestamp is when it last changed, not when we read it.
Each side is its own book. For a two-team game we read both teams' books; each soccer result (home, draw, away) is its own Yes market, and we read its Yes book.
We keep each side's offers, cheapest first, until they add up to $100,000. "holds $X" means the whole side is smaller than the stake. The within 1¢ and 2¢ figures come from the whole side and are rounded down.
Fees: each market's own rate, charged at each price the order fills, rounded to five decimals and added on top. The docs give the fee per trade at its price and don't say "per level" in those words, so that's our reading.
The figure in each cell is the all-in price per share (what you pay, fee included, divided by the shares you get), rounded once to a hundredth of a cent; Decimal, ¢ and % all come from it, so they always agree. Shares are shown to two decimals, rounded down; Polymarket's own rounding on a fill can differ by a fraction of a share.
Not counted: taker rebates, fees charged by third-party apps, the matching delay, and the book moving between our read and your order.
Questions big traders ask
- Is there a max bet on Polymarket?
- Not a fixed one. Polymarket's Help Center (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364481-does-polymarket-have-trading-limits) says its order book has no trading size limits by design, and its docs (docs. polymarket. com/ concepts/ prices-orderbook) say the same. The practical limit is the book: how many shares are for sale near the price you want, which this page shows for each game. Its Terms of Use (polymarket. com/ tos), effective 11 Aug 2026, still let Polymarket set transaction limits and adjust them for individual users, and we found no published maximum stake on polymarket.com. The smallest order a book takes is 5 shares, per its order docs (docs. polymarket. com/ trading/ place-orders). - Is there a max payout on Polymarket?
- A winning share pays $1, so what you get back is the number of shares you hold. We found no published cap on payouts or position size in Polymarket's docs (read 27 Oct 2026). How many shares you can buy near a price depends on the book.
- Does Polymarket limit or ban winning accounts?
- Its Help Center (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364060-what-is-polymarket) says there's no house to ban you for winning too much, because the other side of every trade is another user. Its Terms (polymarket. com/ tos), effective 11 Aug 2026, still let it set limits for individual users, restrict features to closing positions only, ask for more information and end access if it doesn't get it, and act on conduct the Terms prohibit, such as spoofing or wash trading. Its transparency page (polymarket. com/ transparency) says it asks top-volume traders for more information. We found no published rule that limits accounts for winning, and we have no data on how often any of this happens. The sources, with read dates. - Does Polymarket ask big traders for more information?
- Its transparency page (polymarket.
com/ transparency), read 27 Oct 2026, says Polymarket asks top-volume traders for additional information. Its Terms (polymarket. com/ tos) let it request more information from time to time, including to confirm you aren't a restricted person, and end access if you don't provide it in time or it isn't adequate. - Why is my price worse than the % on the market page?
- Polymarket's Help Center (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364488-how-are-prices-calculated) says the % it shows is the midpoint between the best bid and the best ask, or the last trade when they're more than 10¢ apart. A buy pays the ask, a big order climbs to higher prices once the cheapest shares are gone, and the taker fee comes on top. On sports markets a market order also waits a short delay before it matches, and its order docs (docs. polymarket. com/ concepts/ order-lifecycle) say the book can move in that time. - Is the fee taken out of my stake or added on top?
- Polymarket's order docs (docs.
polymarket. com/ trading/ place-orders) say a market buy's amount is before fees and the fee is added on top, unless you set an all-in spending cap. We haven't checked how polymarket.com's own trade screen shows it, so the calculator does both: fee on top, or fee included in your amount. - Do limit orders pay fees on Polymarket?
- Not the part that waits on the book. Polymarket's fee docs (docs.
polymarket. com/ trading/ fees) say makers, whose orders wait on the book, are never charged; only the taker pays. A limit order may fill only in part or not at all, and its Help Center (help. polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364444-limit-orders) says waiting orders on sports markets are cancelled when the game starts. A limit order that rests and is filled later pays no fee and earns DropSiren nothing; one priced at or through the best ask fills at once as a taker and pays the fee on that part. - What happens to my order when the game starts?
- Polymarket clears a sports market's book at the official start time and cancels every waiting order. Start times can shift, so its Help Center (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364444-limit-orders) says to keep an eye on your orders. Shares you already bought stay yours until you sell them or the market resolves. - What if a game is postponed or cancelled?
- Each market's own rules decide, so read them on the market page before you buy. In the rules we read on 27 Oct 2026, a cancelled NBA game with no make-up and an MLB tie or cancellation resolve 50-50, a cancelled soccer match resolves No on each team's market, and a tennis walkover resolves 50-50. Polymarket's resolution docs (docs.
polymarket. com/ concepts/ resolution) put a 50-50 result at 50¢ a share, which isn't a refund: if you paid 70¢ you get 50¢ back. - Can I sell before the game starts?
- Yes, if someone is buying. Polymarket's Help Center (help.
polymarket. com/ en/ articles/ 13364247-can-i-sell-early) says you can sell any time before the market resolves, with a market order at the best bid or a limit order at your price. A market sell is a taker trade, and its V2 docs (docs. polymarket. com/ migrate/ polymarket-v2/ api-integrations) say its fee comes out of what you receive. - How does this compare with my bookmaker?
- Put your bookmaker's decimal odds into the calculator and it shows both returns for the same money out of pocket, and, if you add the odds for every result, both margins. It's arithmetic on two quotes, not advice: your bookmaker's price may not be on offer at your stake, and Polymarket's book moves all the time.
- How fresh are these numbers?
- We read Polymarket's order books at most about every five minutes and stamp every board with the UTC time we checked; after a quiet spell a page can be older, and then it says "last read". Books change by the second and big orders move them, so check the live book on Polymarket before you trade. Games that have started are left off, because their books are cleared at the start.
- Is there a Polymarket bonus code for big traders?
- No. Polymarket doesn't run a sign-up bonus or promo code on polymarket.com, for any size of account. Our link gives you nothing extra: if you're new and sign up through it, DropSiren gets a share of the taker fees you pay, and your fees are the same either way. Polymarket's own taker rebates, and a one-time bonus the first time you reach each rebate tier, are paid on volume, with no code or link. What our referral link does.
- Can I use a VPN for Polymarket?
- Not to get around a block. Polymarket's Terms of Use (polymarket.
com/ tos), effective 11 Aug 2026, prohibit using a VPN or any similar tool to get around its location restrictions. Its trade screen asks you to confirm you aren't doing that, and it can limit a wallet that breaks the rule to closing positions only. The law where you live applies as well, and some regulators block polymarket.com outright. We show Polymarket links only where Polymarket and our country list say it's open to new trades, and we don't help anyone get around that.
Market data comes from Polymarket's public API and stays Polymarket's; it isn't in our open data, API or widget. DropSiren isn't run by or partnered with Polymarket beyond its standard affiliate program.
