Welcome offer · the math

Is the Stake welcome bonus worth it?

A 200% match sounds like free money. It's a discount on wagering you'd have to do anyway — worth it on some games, a trap on others. Here is the arithmetic, not the pitch.

What you actually get

  • 200% of your first deposit as bonus funds, when a code is entered at sign-up. No code, no offer — it cannot be added afterwards.
  • 40× wagering on the bonus before withdrawal, with game restrictions and a max bet while it's active (the exact terms appear on the registration screen and vary by region).
  • A clock. Bonus funds expire if the requirement isn't met in time. Read the number of days before you deposit, not after.

The cost in expectation

A bonus is worth its face value minus what the wagering costs you. Expected cost = required wagering × house edge of what you play. For a $100 deposit, $200 bonus and 40× on the bonus:

You mostly playHouse edgeWageringExpected costNet, in expectation
Originals (Dice, Limbo, Plinko)1%$8,000$80+$120
Mixed casino2.5%$8,000$200$0
Slots (96% RTP)4%$8,000$320−$120
Slots (92% RTP)8%$8,000$640−$440

Two caveats that pages selling the bonus leave out. Expectation is not your result: variance over $8,000 of wagering is enormous either way. And restricted games or a max bet can push you off the low-edge games that make the math work. If the terms exclude Originals, the first row disappears.

Who it suits

  • Worth it if you were going to wager that volume anyway, on low-edge games, within the time limit.
  • Skip it if you'd deposit small, play slots, or feel pressure to keep going to "unlock" the bonus. The requirement is the product; the bonus is the bait.
  • Irrelevant to the codes on this site: drop codes need wagering history, not a fresh account.

How to activate it

  1. Open Stake and start registration.
  2. Find the promo / referral code field on the form — it is optional and easy to skip.
  3. Enter a code, for example DropSiren. Every valid code unlocks the same offer.
  4. Read the terms shown, then deposit only what you'd play regardless.

Open Stake — a referral link; it changes nothing about the offer. Stake.com doesn't accept players in the US, UK and several other countries; check yours first.

The honest summary: a welcome bonus lowers the price of wagering, it never turns it positive. Decide the wagering first, then take the discount. Never the other way round.

Questions people actually ask

What is the Stake welcome bonus?
A 200% match on your first deposit, activated only when a promo code is entered during registration. The bonus carries a 40× wagering requirement before it can be withdrawn, and game restrictions and a maximum bet usually apply while it's active. Check the exact terms shown at sign-up — they vary by region and code.
Can I add the Stake welcome bonus after signing up?
No. The code field is on the registration form. An account created without a code has no welcome offer, and support won't add one later. That is the single most common regret we hear about.
Is the Stake welcome bonus worth it?
On low-edge games, in expectation, yes: 40× wagering at a 1% house edge costs about 40% of the bonus in expected loss. On slots at 4% edge it costs about 160% of it — you lose more than the bonus in expectation. Whether it suits you depends on what you'd play anyway and whether you'd wager that volume regardless.
Is there a Stake no-deposit welcome bonus?
No. Stake.com has no no-deposit bonus; pages claiming a 'free $5 code' are selling a sign-up code dressed up. Stake.us, the US sweepstakes site, does give free Stake Cash and Gold Coins with no purchase.
What is the best Stake promo code for the welcome bonus?
Any valid code unlocks the same offer — the code identifies who referred you, not a bigger bonus. Ours is listed on this page. Codes claiming '300%' or 'exclusive $2,000' are either regional variations or fiction.
Do drop codes work for new accounts?
No. Drop codes require roughly $4,000 wagered in the previous 7 days per $1 of value. A new account qualifies for the welcome match first and for drops only after it has built volume.
